Let It Be: Step Five

Step Five

Year 7, I hope you have found the information interesting and useful so far. I trust you are keeping up to date with your blogs. I will expect to see some posts from you, including your research task. Your next task is to write your own song. This page contains some helpful information about the writing process.

We will be going into much more detail in class as well, and I will be coming around to help you with your compositions.

I would like you to document your progress on your blog. Each time you work on your song, please write a brief post about what you changed in the song and why.

Make sure you include any information about chords you are using, key, lyrics and rhythm. Your song needs to be between one and two minutes long.

You will be playing your song in class at the end of week 8. You have the choice to either record it on Garage Band, or you can play it live for the class.

Your composition should also include harmony, and melody. If you want to include a bass line and a percussion part, that would be fantastic. Otherwise, harmony and melody is perfectly fine.

Here’s some hints to get you started…

Here’s some more.. very useful!! Songwriting can be easy!

Another website, just for some fun. Explore!

Composition

  • Do you start with melody, or harmony?
  • Are you writing a melody for lyrics? Or lyrics for a melody?
  • What chord progression will you use?
  • Will your song have a major tonality, or a minor tonality?
  • What is the message of your song?
  • Is your song fast, or slow?

It helps to ask yourself questions about your song. Don’t forget, document your progress with your composition on your music blog! You will be given time in class to work on your song at least one lesson a week.

I hope this online unit has provided lots of interesting experiences for you.

I look forward to hearing all your unique performances of Let It Be!
